ES:
Where do you reside?
EM: I currently live in
a house in northwest Davenport, IA with my wife, Kim and
cat, Lucy. Currently there is a lack of testosterone in
the house, hopefully that will change in the next few years.
SportsCenter good, Extreme Home Makeover bad..
ES:
What makes you money today?
EM: What? More like who.
My wife does a pretty good job at making me money. She’s
a little hottie so I get top dollar for her at the brothel.
Just kidding. About the brothel part. See next question.
ES:
What is your title, what do you do, and where?
EM: I am an Infrastructure
Analyst for Deere & Company in Moline, Illinois. Basically
I watch 2 computer screens that monitor different parts
of Deere’s infrastructure worldwide (mainframe and
network/distributed servers), and if something breaks, I
fix it or call someone who can. Sounds about as fun as a
kick in the junk but actually its not too bad, I have learned
more since I started here than I have since I got into IT.
ES:
What time do you wake up & what's the first
thing you do?
EM: There’s a short
version and a long version to this answer….I’ll
take the middle of the road. Since I do support for Deere
business units worldwide, we have to be available all hours
of the day, so we do 24x7 support = shift work. I have been
on 2nd shift for the last 4 months…which was nice
b/c I didn’t get up until 10am every day, watch Dawson’s
Creek reruns, eat lunch then be to work by 1. It was great.
I just recently went to 3rd shift, this is actually my first
night. So basically, I get up about 5pm and eat supper,
then go to whatever softball league I’m scheduled
to play in that night. Then, head to work. (By the way,
I have come to the conclusion in the last 4 months that
Joey Potter is a big tease, poor Pacey and Dawson.)
ES:
What do you do in your spare time?
EM:
Spare time, HA! I finally started to get some in
the last week. In the four months prior, my life was consumed
with work, and when not at work, it was consumed with studying.
I am pursuing my MBA thru the University of Iowa, and just
finished my first semester. I took the summer off since
I am working 3rd shift, I thought working all night and
trying to do class and softball and maintain my -15 handicap
was a little much. Come on, a guy has to have priorities.
(Did I mention the -15 handicap was on Tiger Woods 2005?
I dominate that game.)
ES:
What's in your cd player right now?
EM: Usually it is some CD
that I have burned that reflects the latest top 40 hits.
But I’ve been a little lax on the CD burning lately,
so I actually I think it is some stuff I used to listen
to a few years back, but forgot it was good…..System
of a Down or So So Def Bass All Stars, can’t exactly
remember which one. When it comes to music, I will listen
to anything except most country. And opera. That crap will
render you deaf in a matter of minutes.
ES: What's
your favorite website and why? (Eric-Sharp.com is not
electable)
EM: I hit cnn.com about
50 times a day to see what’s happening in the world.
Another site I’ve recently frequented quite a bit
is maps.google.com. I think it is pretty cool, b/c you
can view satellite images of bigger cities on this site
as well as get directions. I like to make a scavenger
hunt out of it, like see if I can find Lady Liberty in
NYC or the Space Needle in Seattle. Basically since school
is out, I have too much time on my hands.
ES: List
a few of your short term goals. (Travel, career, personal,
etc.)
EM: Um, let’s see.
This summer I hope to get the deck pressure washed and
water-treated. Also want to build some shelving for the
basement so I can organize it a little instead of having
a bunch of junk thrown in random piles. Also, going to
have a party soon I think. Also, I hope not to fall asleep
before I get off at 8am. (Only about 5.5 hours left.)
ES:
If you could spend a day with anyone in the world (living),
who would it be and why?
EM: I would say probably
Joshua Jackson, for those of you who are not ‘Creekers,
that is Pacey from Dawson’s Creek. I would like
to know if him and James Van Der Beek and Katie Holmes
really talk like that or what. Dawson, quit wallowing
in your infinite self-pity and find your inner James Dean
or Frank Sinatra and go sweep Joey off her feet instead
of spending the rest of your mind-numbing days searching
for Hollywood notoriety. Seriously. Who talks like that?
And how many high school students sit around and philosophize
like they do? I guess that why I watch the show. Plus
Katie Holmes is hot.
ES:
Favorite movies of all time?
EM: Major League, The
Patriot (Mel Gibson), Office Space, there are quite a
few. Oh yeah, Top Gun too, but seriously, Tom, you had
your hay day, you are not going to revitalize your career
by bumping uglies with an up-n-coming actress, Katie Holmes.
It’s time to come to grips with reality.
ES: If
you were given the power to either fly (45 mph max), or
become invisible for a designated duration of 30 minutes
every day, which one would you choose & why?
EM: You know invisibility
would be cool, but flying would be much cooler. I’ve
always wanted to just blast off from where ever I’m
standing and fly up into the clouds like Superman. Who
cares if you can only go 45mph, it’s still better
than fighting against stupid Iowa drivers.
ES:
Have you ever been arrested? If so, what for?
EM: Um no. But came close
a couple of months ago, kinda. I was in Chicago, hanging
out with a buddy, walking along Lake Michigan just north
of the Mile and we saw some idiots walking on the frozen
lake. I mean these people obviously had no brain….who
knows how thick the ice was and it only went out a couple
hundred yards until it was water again. So anyway, long
story short, my friend and I decided to get a “closer
look” at the ice (like go out on it), and before
we know it the Chicago Police are yelling thru their megaphones
to get off the ice and beckoning us to walk towards them….luckily,
they weren’t talking to us, it some moron that wasn’t
us. I think he got a ticket or arrested. Or something.
ES:
What's your most favorite memory of Eric?
EM: I have a couple. The
one I will never forget is senior year football. Scrimmage.
Tyler Andersen running a drag pattern. Sharpy waiting
patiently. The pass is made. Tyler catches the ball, and
then an explosion, something so dramatic, so earthshaking,
that Tyler flips head over heels like twice. That’s
right, baby. The Grenade strikes again. I think Tyler
is still feeling that hit today, 8 years later. Poor guy.
Nice hit, Sharpy. The other one is from an earlier time,
back in junior high, I think, when Sharpy used to come
to my house after school and I would kick the crap out
of him in basketball. Poor guy, he never had a chance.
